Stephen B. Maebius
Stephen B. Maebius is a partner and member of the firm’s Management Committee and former chair of the Intellectual Property Department. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he was a patent examiner in the Biotechnology Group of the USPTO. Steve has led teams within Foley handling a variety of different kinds of IP work, including IP diligence reviews, opinions, international portfolio management, licensing, litigation and parallel reexaminations, patent term extensions, and interferences. In the area of nanotechnology, Steve helped start the NanoBusiness Alliance and the Nanotechnology Law & Business journal. He continues to serve as an associate editor of the Nanotechnology Law & Business journal.
Tianran (T.R.) Yan
Tianran Yan is an associate and member of the Chemical, Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Practice and Life Sciences Industry Team. T.R. focuses his practice on assisting clients worldwide with their intellectual property needs, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the United States and internationally, and evaluating patents for freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions. T.R. earned his law degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law (J.D., 2009), where he was an editor of the Chicago-Kent Law Review and a recipient of the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law. While in law school, he served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Magistrate Judge Maria Valdez in the Northern District of Illinois.
